Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the national and district Atlas?

The national view compares states using ABS state aggregates. District view draws simplified ABS Statistical Area Level 2 (SA2) outlines and shades areas with published regional values. Only selected reported crop metrics are available, not all farming activity.

Does darker shading mean higher yield?

No. Darker green represents a larger absolute reported crop measure within the selected year. Regions differ in area. The year-over-year change lens instead colours published differences; missing data remain uncoloured.

Can I compare districts and years?

Yes. Open the district Atlas, choose a state, crop and measure, then select an area. You can compare a second district and inspect available observations over three financial years. A missing source value creates a gap, never a zero.

Are all 723 agricultural areas shown on the map?

No. The broadacre Atlas displays the 411 source-linked statistical district shapes available in its map layer. The source collection now has 723 distinct named SA2 areas across broadacre and horticulture, many of which are searchable in District 360 without corresponding map polygons. A missing map shape or crop cell must not be interpreted as zero activity.

Are ABS crop values actual selling prices?

No. Local value represents published aggregate crop-sales estimates for the relevant financial year. It is not a spot price, price per contract, profit, current market rate or future forecast.

Do I have to sign in?

No. The national and district Atlas, visual dashboards and public calculators are free to use. You can sign in with Google, Microsoft or email to save analysis views and selected farm plans.

How do Premium research boards work?

Premium users can save up to 30 private boards spanning broadacre and horticultural regional benchmarks, farm risks, annual cash flow, freight, borrowing stress and whole-farm enterprise portfolios. Reopen or delete them from My Farm or your workspace.

Can I explore horticulture and broadacre together?

Yes. District 360 brings together any official broadacre and horticulture records reported for one SA2. Production sold, winegrape crush, harvested horticulture and in-shell macadamia measures retain separate source definitions and are never combined into an invented common output.

How can I find a related district?

The Comparable District Finder scores source-published crop-area mix among broadacre SA2 areas. It compares only reported shared crops and is not a measure of soil quality, water, agronomic suitability or profitability.

Is the farm borrowing tool an interest-rate forecast or a loan quote?

No. It illustrates monthly repayment and rate-shock sensitivities using the loan terms and cash flow you enter, without credit approval, interest-rate forecasts or banking recommendations.

What is historical local sales value per levied tonne?

A source-matched ratio of ABS-reported local value sold to ABS levied tonnes sold for the same year and SA2. It is not a market price. Regional rankings exclude districts below 100 reported tonnes and disclose the filter.

How does Premium work?

The current beta includes a free tier and Premium capabilities in testing, including multi-scenario comparisons and exports. Real Stripe checkout remains closed until standalone billing security and compliance tests are completed.

Can these charts tell me what to grow?

No. These are historic ABS estimates with aggregated geography. They are not agronomic forecasts, investment recommendations or farm-specific financial advice. The planners calculate scenarios from values you enter.

Can I suggest a missing dataset?

Yes. Sign in to My workspace and use the feedback form to describe the source or analysis you want us to consider.
